Link-ages is an app platform designed to enhance the lives of older people by helping them to connect with their families digitally. In the UK there are 4.8M people over 55 who are not online according to the latest figures. Although statistics show that many older people do not see the benefits of being online, our research indicated that using email or social media to communicate is a popular driver of engagement.
We believe that with our well-designed product we can impact this market and we have already received recognition, including during our development and prototyping process:

We have recently launched the product to market and as we receive customer feedback this will help us identify how to improve and expand our platform. We already have a priority list for future development and we are confident that our team has the ability to deliver.

Link-ages is currently being developed within Eadie Developments Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of a small family business, Eadie Cairns Ltd. We are currently investigating moving Link-ages into a separate company.
I started the original market research in 2015 to understand the current offerings, the scale of need/interest and market potential. During 2016 we worked through various prototypes and during August/September approached a number of developers to gauge interest. The level of enthusiasm for the product was incredible and the company we chose spent 4 months with us fully understanding and refining the product before we started coding early in 2017.
From the start all parties understood that this product had to be suitable for new or inexperienced users and people with specific needs most commonly associated with ageing. From day 1, our policy has been to provide a safe, private, accessible and useable product, designed specifically for our target users. This has meant that the development has been slower as testing within the potential user group was constantly required.
After 3 months on-market testing we started to build our marketing campaign, again with a 3 month assessment process to establish the best routes to potential customers. May 1st saw the start of structured marketing and we have seen a considerable uplift in downloads since this date.
We have two team members fully committed to this development. From within the parent company we have the support of an accountant and another Director who deals with Contractual/Legal documentation.
External contractors are: a well-established coding company that has a small revenue stake and a sole-trader Marketing Company.
