Getting ready for GDPR
Joanne Vengadesan, Penningtons Manches LLP
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to replace the current Data Protection Act in May 2018. This will be a major shake-up of the law in this area, and in almost all cases will require business planning and changes to legal processes and documentation.
This January, we will host a seminar for SETsquared members on the key implications of the GDPR.
The seminar will cover:
What does the GDPR mean for you?
Key obligations & changes, including:
· Enhanced rights of data subjects
· Consent & legitimate interest
· Privacy by design
· Transferring data overseas
· Accountability principle
· Sanctions & enforcement
GDPR readiness – preparing for the new regime
· Immediate steps
· Data mapping & “gap” analysis
· Ongoing considerations
· Handling data breaches
· Data protection issues in contracts
