Apollo Rail selected to deliver Department for Transport funded project

The UK government is seeking to put in place ways to improve the rail experience for passengers. One of the issues being looked at is improved connectivity and the Department for Transport (DfT) has set standards for mandatory free WiFi for new rail franchises. Project SAFRON ('Safe Operational Radio Network') is an 18 month project to demonstrate how Passenger WiFi can be used for new innovations in customer information, condition monitoring and even train control, whilst still maintaining the safety and security of the train.

Surrey offers a launch pad for tech

In a changing world, the winners are the ones who are agile enough to take advantage. Today, few environments change as rapidly as the technology sector, which means those able to get off the launching pad can often get a head start on slower competitors. If you can turn an idea into a business straight away, you put yourself in the best possible position.

Many entrepreneurs do that by spinning their tech concepts out of the university where their research is based, and the University of Surrey is keen to showcase its credentials for budding tech entrepreneurs.


SETsquared Surrey programme helps UK tech start-ups raise £8m

New figures show that SETsquared Surrey’s Digital Business Acceleration Hubs (DBAH) have helped over 100 UK tech start-ups raise a combined total of more than £8m in investment.

The programme, which is funded by the European Regional Development Funding (ERDF), offers entrepreneurs and start-ups the opportunity to stress test their business proposition through its award winning entrepreneur’s programme. To date 305 fledgling businesses have been through the programme. The most promising are then offered business support, mentoring and the opportunity to pitch for investment....

The University of Surrey launches new programme to power high-growth UK companies

The University of Surrey, as part of the SETsquared Partnership, today launched a programme to enable some of the UK’s best tech scale-up companies become the sector giants of tomorrow. It is expected to generate over £25bn by 2030, create an additional 30,000 high-skilled jobs in the tech sector, and help improve Britain’s poor investment record in research and development.
